How to Get Free Health Insurance Coverage
Many people may consider it a socialist practice to offer free health insurance for those who need it. But for millions of Americans, necessary health care is not possible because they cannot afford to purchase expensive private plan, they have a pre-existing condition and don’t qualify, or they don’t have a job that offers a health insurance plan. You can find places that offer free health insurance, many of which are state funded or community based.
Instructions
1
Go to the Health Resources and Services Administration’s (HRSA) website. They operate through the Department of Health and Human Service. There are a list of 192 “Hill-Burton” Facilities who are OBLIGATED to provide free or low-cost health care. You can find one that’s in your city.
2
Check your state’s department of health website. They will have a list of programs or referrals to where you can get free or low cost health care. Some programs, you may be placed on a waiting list after you qualify. Qualification is usually in the form of making sure your fall below the poverty line in terms of your income and the number of people in your family.
3
Check to see if you qualify for Medicaid. This is a federal program that helps give you health care if you can’t afford it. You also have to qualify by filling out information about your income and the amount of people in your household.
4
Children are usually covered under your states “Children’s Health Insurance Program” or CHIP. You may have to pay a small fee for co pays but for the most part it is affordable. Ask your state’s department of health for information on how to cover your child.
5
Go to city or state hospitals and ask them if they have a “free care” program. Some city or state hospitals have “fee care” programs for people who cannot afford to pay. You usually have to give the hospital all of your information, including your income. You will them be given an hospital card where your service are tracked. Your services are free as long as you use the doctors in that particular hospital.
6
Look into health and community centers. Many of them will offer free health and dental care. You many have to qualify by providing your income and salary information.
7
Look in to religious based hospitals and clinics. They will many times offer free health care to those who cannot afford it.
Tips & Warnings
You shouldn’t have to pay anyone to help your find free health insurance so do not fall for anyone asking you to pay for this service.
Make sure you have all your financial records in order, you will need them.
